No money? Let them look at architecture.

From monasteries to contemporary architecture. Above all, this is Le Corbusier country. They will not speak English to you, and good food is expensive, but it is a wonderful country for looking at buildings.

Getting around

For outlying houses and chapels, check both the connection from the nearest station and your way back.

Exploring

Check worship and visiting hours at cathedrals. If you are staying in town, the changing morning and evening light is part of the experience.
